It's called white gravy, but fast food biscuits and gravy are not the best. If you want good biscuits and gravy have to go to a good restaurant with great breakfast food. The fast food variety has no flavor most the time and it's not as thick and creamy.

I had never thought about the taking away of empty plates before EVERYONE is finished eating but that makes SO much sense! (I am not a server, btw). I can see how this would make someone who is not finished, very uncomfortable.

Why would hotels put electric kettles in hotel rooms? It would be a pain to clean something that wouldn't really be used. Why don't you just heat your water up in the coffee maker?

I'm from from NE Ohio (Youngstown area) and am now living outside of Chicago. When given directions, the expressions of "when the corn is up" and "when the corn is down" in rural areas, are very important when looking for landmarks like the Casey Stores, Mr. Griffin's farm, or that intersection with the old broken-down tractor. Very important! Oh, corn is HUGE in Illinois and all the Mid-West. "Knee-high by the Fourth (of July)!"

There’s actually another phrase, “armchair quarterback.” Literally, someone who watches Am Football on TV & complains about strategy From the couch. More generally, an “armchair quarterback” tries to manage things they know nothing about, and aren’t doing any of the work themselves.

In billiards, you cannot hit the 8-ball (the Black one) before sinking a different number, and you NEVER want to pocket the 8-ball unless it’s you last turn. So if the 8-ball blocks your shot, the cute ball is literally “behind the 8-ball.” That’s the origin

Regarding Heritage, the US is largely an immigrant country, and so it’s one of the ways we identify ourselves and share traditions (and food and language) that have been passed down. Though it can get political (depending on the person), it used to be common for people to know how their ancestors arrived in America, whether on the Mayflower, Italians, Irish, war displaced refugees, slavery, etc.

Bagged milk came into being when an individual placed gasoline into a reusable container and as a result a child died from poisoning. So saftey is the main reason. Also there is less landfill.

As a Canadian, boasting seems a little immature. We are confident with ourselves. Regarding food, people eat what they enjoy but then again "Please explain Spotted Dick. On the subject of French, Canadian French is a dialect that is 100 ~ 200 years out of date. It is said that individuals from Paris can not understand Canadian French. Quebec demands the language of their church but fails to comprehend that Catholicism was Latin; how foolish. Regarding the overall perspective of your questions (I am sorry to say), is one that needs to be experienced. As for Americans, ours is one one tolerance rather than acceptance. Most Canadians what very little to do with the USA.

Oh I also like it when wait staff take away empty dishes, because it makes for less clutter and when I'm out, I prefer to focus on the conversation, because food is just a part of the experience. Actually sometimes I ask them to take away the empty plates etc. Another thing that is done in a lot of countries, not just the UK although it's more moticeable, is small talk. Gurrrr!

  • @harmonyln7

I grew up in England and now live in Scotland and I find the thing of saying sorry for everything irritating. Queues are equally annoying because they take forever, although I agree it's important to wait your turn.

To answer the first one: The reason you here about the united states more is because they keep bragging up how great they think they are. That is usually not a Canadian trait. Pineapple on Pizza is great, you are weird for thinking it is weird. Just do not knock it until you try it, I take it a step beyond actually, I order a Hawaiian Pizza and request olives to be added. The secret to Canadian happiness is no secret, it just feels better. We just take the mindset that if you are nice to people than those same people are nice back. I will answer your french question with a question, why do English people dis on the french all the time? I will also answer it by saying think of how America has English as its main language, but also has significant Spanish speaking as well. It is a bit like that. We have milk in cartons too. The bag option is so we can use them in our porcelain pitchers. We mostly use cartons actually, there has always been both options at the store for some reason. I never questioned it before. As for the Royal Family, I am indifferent to them. The EH thing is a myth. Likely started by America to make fun of us. there is a little bit of it, but it is vary region specific. that along with a lot of other words and phrases is the equivalent of lumping the whole U.K. together and stating that you all say the phrase: "Blimey Governor that is brilliant " in every other sentence. which we know are just stereotypes.

The Americans are not being rude, their culture is just more direct. Thing is, being a Brit living in the USA, I am always fine being "UK polite", but my American girlfriend being "USA polite" isn't good in the UK. She has to be "UK polite" because she can come off rude a lot, but I know she's not rude, just American. (The American click I have never seen or heard). The food one is weird, UK food isn't the best, and the USA food is the same. The good thing about the US is they have MORE food for choice, but most of it isn't American, it's foreign food in the USA. The NHS vs private stuff.... the NHS wins 99% of the time. You don't realise how good the NHS is until you don't have it anymore.
